Monday 16th July Athletics Club 7pm. Please bring your weights!
Wednesday 18th July Athletics Club 7pm. Please expect a strong session once again.
Just when you think things can’t get any worse it does and it did. The heavens opened up last Wednesday night just as the session was about to begin. Luckily we were trying a new warm up routine which involved 5 minutes jogging on the spot. It was only coincidental we were under the oak tree at that time, we were not sheltering. During that period Gavin mistook us for a group of Ripon Runners!
Congratulations to Pat who won the over 55s ladies prize in the Harrrogate Evening League, a good result and a surprise for Pat on the evening who had just come along to watch. Overall the club supported the races well and it was good to see such high numbers turning out. Looks like Wetherby Runners are the ones to beat next year – I have a ringer in the club to try and find out their training secrets!
Date for your diary – Wednesday 25th July white horse car park. Our annual time trial followed by a barbecue, runners and families welcome. Tesco Nigel is providing the fuel, please bring your own food and drink. For those who are injured or don’t fancy running, please come and help stoke the fires and with time-keeping. The route will be along the foot of the white horse to the hairpin bend and back. It is not too hilly but it is likely to be wet and muddy underfoot. We will be providing a canopy for some shelter, but you will probably need to bring wellies, fleeces and raincoats – everything you need for a summer barbecue. Sadly there is a fell race this night but please make an effort to come.
Another date for your diary – Sessay Swift 6k. Thursday 23rd August, 7.30pm. This is a club event being organised by Marion, suitable for all runners, beginners included. Only £6 to enter with some of the proceeds going to the Harriers. There will be no club session the night before to give you all a rest in anticipation. Hope to see you all there.
A short while ago we asked for people interested in joining the committee. We have had a good response and now have three new members on the committee, it is good to see some younger members coming forward. We now also have a Thirsk 10 sub-committee up and running. If anybody has any ideas or suggestions for either committee please let us know, we look forward to your input.
Keep smiling and see you all soon,
