The Wensleydale Wander races took place on Saturday, over 22 miles or 12 miles, and runners were greeted with snow to begin with. The course was slippery, with rain, hail, cold and strong winds adding to the challenge. Full results are not yet to hand, but Pat Kirby, running with her friend, Maureen Gibbs, completed the 22 mile race in a very creditable 4 hours 10 minutes.
Alan Harman was among the 277 finishers of the Meanwood Valley Trail Race on the same day, over about 7 miles, with tree roots and plenty of hills, and, of course, cold, to be overcome. He finished 129th in 63.41.The next day, full of energy and enthusiasm as ever, he was at the Dandancer 10k at South Shields, a friendly north east race over a flattish course overlooking the sea in the area of the Great North Run finish. The winds were very strong throughout, with a shower of rain wetting runners before the start. Full results are not yet to hand, but 214 runners completed the course, with Alan Harman taking 52.15, Ian Codling 61.04 and Marian Codling 69.59.
