Training w/c 24/05/21

Well done everyone running last week’s championship. Just a reminder, the time you need to submit for these races is your elapsed time, not your moving time, your watch/strava might show both. Its just the same as if you run a real race – any stops count as part of your time. 

This week’s training:

Monday 24th May   
Sutton Bank Monthly two mile time trial.
See separate email with instructions.

Wednesday 26th May 6.50 start.  Sowerby Gateway Track:
Warm ups and light core work/ 10 x 1 min @ smooth 10k/ 10 mile pace./ 1 min rec. Remember we have a big championship race coming up we don’t anything over the top. Gently does it. Your body needs to get used to your race pace.

Weekend long run is the next Championship Race 9: Alternative Ripon 10 – see separate email for instructions and details

 This is your biggest challenge of the year so far and It’s the one that most of you enjoyed the most. Please read Duncan’s instructions in the race email.  It is exactly the same course as last year and remember you finish by running the up and downy bits last. It is also busier than a year ago so try and keep to quieter times. Also remember Kirsty has some race horses to exercise and they cross the road between 7am and 12.30pm on a morning but not on the Sunday. Lets not upset anyone. It’s bulbs in Bagby, It could be trees on Sutton Bank!!

And a few further thoughts from Rob:
Championship facts to date. 
With 8 of the 2021 Championship races completed 129 members have taken part so far. 65 men 64 Women. The boys are leading the girls by 1. A massive number of 42 have completed all 8 events. You need to see the website for all the rules and regs but this year we are running two different championships for the first time. Age adjusted and First past the post. The first five men and five women in each Championship will receive a prize. Those who are good a maths will have worked out that there are 20 prizes up for grabs so there is plenty still to work for. It’s still not too late to push for a tittle. Good luck to you all.

Know your body, Know your mind. 
I won’t compete without I’m wearing my wedding ring as I have to take a little bit of Christine with me everywhere I go. I always put on my left running shoe before I put on my right. I always have a couple of slices of toast and marmalade three hours before I stand on the start line so I can feel confident enough before I compete. 
Almost three months ago I went for a three mile run Kilburn Woods but I turned around after a mile, I didn’t have the confidence to carry on. That’s what injuries do. Three months later I fear no-one but myself. The three short sentences above may not seem insignificant but I rate them every bit as important as my last interval session or time trial. There is more to this running lark than you first think or is it all just in the mind?? 
Prepare the body, focus the mind. Trust in your training and believe in yourself. 
Keep running, Keep smiling and see you all at the Ripon 10, virtual of course.
