Rob’s weekly blog and training update w/c 12/02/18

The first of the Ben Campbell recces this weekend. Please feel free to join in even if you can’t/aren’t taking part in the actual race. It’s a good social/training run. Meeting in the White Horse car park. Sunday. 9am for the 5k route and 10am for the 10k route. Or you can always do both.

See under “FUTURE RACE LISTS” for actual race event details on 7th April

HALF-TERM WEEK; 7pm on the Flatts with Jody. Jody is planning on a group relay session. Great session to get your heart rate going. Come and join in – all abilities are more than welcome.

Social run from Thirsk and Sowerby leisure centre at 7pm (meet in foyer) on well-lit paths and pavements. Suitable for all abilities; there will be several stops to run back/regroup, no-one runs by themselves or gets left behind. New and returning Tuesday night runners always welcome.
Route to be decided on the night, around 5 miles. Please wear high vis if you have it.

7pm Athletic Club. I enjoyed last weeks session so much that I’m repeating it this week. Nice to run hard for 4 minutes knowing that a rest is coming up soon (In roughly half mile, in my case)

Intervals. 4 mins run, 1 min recovery, 4 mins run then 2 min recovery THEN turnaround (repeat twice more)
Valentine’s night! So, I’ll be checking behind the shed for missing athletes!!

NY/SD cross-country at The Old Race Course, Low Moor, Richmond

This is a Club Championship race, a difficult but testing course to do but if it was easy then everyone would want to run it! You may get away with just a stud but if you are feeling good and are in good shape then a light spike would be ideal. Be prepared for the wind as it’s very open. Please bring your club vest but if you don’t have one then you need to get one ASAP.

Separate email to follow.

Message from the chairman:
You’ll be pleased to know that I’m feel very positive about our Great club and running in general.
FIRSTLY: As some of you are aware, last Saturday I took Joshua to Barnard Castle to run for North Yorkshire in the cross-country event. In the snow he battled round a muddy and hilly four lap course and what a proud moment to see him come home 8th for North Yorkshire. Just missing out on a national place. Even though the course was tough his Strava efforts showed a personal record for 1k; 1mile; 2 miles and 5k. What a great achievement son!
SECONDLY: Following the 1000-mile challenge last year I decided to “run at least a mile a day”. Some people call it RED “Run every day”. Unsure if I do it for the full year however 40 days done so far (125 miles)
THIRDLY: The club is a great friendly place, lots of running going on and Thirsk 10 is going to plan (few more marshals needed, please see me or Phillip if you would like to know what is involved as it’s not a difficult task. Just a great way to give something back to Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers)
