7pm. Flatts Just behind the swimming pool. Remember it could be cold so wrap up warm, you can always take clothes off as you warm up. Remember, the body works at its most efficient when warm so if there is snow on the ground then it’s not a good idea to come down wearing shorts!!
Monday 8th and Monday 15th the gym is booked for exams, so training will take place on the Flatts behind the swimming pool on these two nights.

Social run from Thirsk and Sowerby leisure centre at 19:00 (meet in foyer) on well-lit paths and pavements. Suitable for all abilities; there will be several stops to run back/regroup, no-one runs by themselves or gets left behind. New and returning Tuesday night runners always welcome.
Route to be decided on the night, around 5 miles. Please wear high vis if you have it.

7pm Thirsk School. Spring term is usually when the school is normally being used for cricket training before we arrive, so we need to be organised at setting up on the changeover. Your help and enthusiasm during this time will be much appreciated, thank you. First half of the session will concentrate on core work then split into two for inside and outside intervals more commonly referred to as lung busters!!

Please note that Wednesday 24th Jan is not available, so it would be a good opportunity to have the time trial this week and continue at school the following week. I was also thinking as half the club prefer trail and country to road then maybe we could have the time trial in Kilburn woods this month (weather dependant) and just to make things fair and even swop it around the following month and have it on station road. This way we can maybe make everyone little happier than they otherwise would be.

Message from the chairman:
Great to see so many at Captain Cook on Sunday and returning to training last night. Don’t forget to pay the subscriptions before the end of this month. I try and list as many races as possible on these weekly emails, please fire me any suggestions before Thursday’s if you would like anything adding.

This is the time of year when we all make new plans and create new dreams and try to focus on the year ahead. Mine is still to run in the upper Arctic and run with the polar bear. I have just missed the winter race which sort of didn’t fit in and the summer race this year clashes with a family wedding. The problem is that I just don’t want to just run it, but I want to set an age group best and I need to put a 12 to 14-week block of training together before I go so it all needs planning a little bit in advance. If I run in winter it could be minus 30 and in summer it will be just above freezing, either way it will need a few days to acclimatise so it involves a period when we don’t have much on. Christine would prefer to run when it’s warmer, but I don’t mind either way, I don’t mind running in cold climates. I have run in both the Antarctic and upper Arctic and I much prefer to run in extreme heat. Keeping warm is not a problem if you layer correctly.
I wonder what everyone else has planned for the coming year!! Just remember it’s prepare the body and focus the mind, trust in your training and believe in yourself.
