Week 3. Beginners group on the back field. Still time for you to join this group!

TUESDAY 23RD APRIL

Social run from Thirsk and Sowerby leisure centre at 7pm (meet in foyer). Mostly off road depending on the weather. Suitable for all abilities; there will be several stops to run back/regroup, no-one runs by themselves or gets left behind. New and returning Tuesday night runners always welcome.

Route to be decided on the night, around 5 miles. Please wear high vis if you have it. Trail shoes not essential but can be worn if you have them.

WEDNESDAY 24TH APRIL

Easter Handicap (Handicap times to follow as a separate email) . Sowerby Gateway Fitness trail. HOLD ONTO YOUR HAT because here we go.

Park either in the school bus car park area or at Aldi, not on Gravel Hole Lane. The entrance is opposite the school car park entrance.

The gate will only be open between 6.45 and 7pm and will be locked after we enter.

Everyone must sign in and sign out as this is still a working site. There will be a short briefing by me (Rob) before we enter in the school car park, not on the road. Margaret will be signing you in so arrive early. Only club members allowed on site.

Please stay on the fitness trail/track at all times, do not go on to any new planted or seeded areas. Once inside we will gather/congregate at the far side on the 100 metre strip which is also the finish area.

The first aid point will be close to the finish area. Please note: There are no toilets on site.

At the moment there is a vehicle crossing point area which may have hard core on it. Lift your feet up when you cross this area.

You will see the track splits into two, one red, one black. It doesn’t matter which one you take; they are both the same length. This could be tactical once you are in race mode.

If there is anything else you want to know then please ask me. If I don’t know the answer, then I’ll make it up!!

Nearly there!!

Order of events.

  1. 7.10 pm. Sharon and Rob to be the first to jog around the course. ( this has been our toy for the past 5 to 6 years)
  2. 7.15 pm. Any parent who have children who are not members to run 1 lap if they want to. It’s a family club so why not but please stay on the track at all times.
  3. 7.20 pm. Any athletes from the beginners group who are brave enough to run 1 lap.
  4. 7.25 pm. Handicap race. 3.2 laps. Your handicap times will be sent out shortly. All the race rules are on the club website. If you miss your start time it will be your fault so listen to the starter.

Prize giving and supper will be at the Athletic Club form 8.15pm onwards. Please bring  some nibbles.

We need at least 5 volunteers to help make it all happen. Marshals, time keepers etc,

Please come along if you can make it as it is a very special night for Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers. Go with an open mind and tell me what you think about it after the event. I think you will enjoy it.

THURSDAY 25TH APRIL

7pm sharp, Starting from Sneck Yate.

Bring a clean jumper and some beer tokens for refreshments afterwards.

Message from the head-coach:

Great turnout last night for Freddie’s Challenge in the woods. Hope you all enjoyed it and thanks to all who helped make the night a success and especially to Andy who made all the signs so you all went the right way!! I thought the course was brilliant, my brother did too. We raised a total of £441.85. Freddie’s family are very grateful and would like to say a big thank you to you all.

Lost property; 1 club vest and also a black, long sleeved top.

Note for the diary: Lakes weekend is 15th & 16th November 2019, further details later.
