CHAMPIONSHIP RACE – NYSD Cross Country (Separate email already sent)

Ormesby Hall, Church Lane, Ormesby, Middlesbrough, TS7 9AS

Please use the Church Lane entrance to the Hall NOT the main gate entrance from Ladgate Lane.

7pm. Thirsk School.  Back to normal.

INSIDE GROUP: Like the last couple of weeks I am expecting a large group for the inside session so please be patient while we get the wheels in motion. Be prepared for around 35 minutes of core work designed to get the pulse ticking over at a slightly higher rate than normal! It would also be good if we can continue in the equal ability groups which will help encourage improvement at a more even rate.

OUTSIDE GROUP: The outside group will require head torches and if the weather forecast is anything to go by, a woolly hat and a warm pair of gloves.  Ken and Duncan are taking an outside group giving a choice of two speeds. Go with the one closest to your speed. You will need a head torch and shoes suitable for running on grass. Monday night will be a recovery run, ie 10 min warm up 25 mins steady with a 30 sec stride every 2 to 3 mins with 5 to 10 mins cool down.

Social run from Thirsk and Sowerby leisure centre at 7pm (meet in foyer) on well-lit paths and pavements. Suitable for all abilities; there will be several stops to run back/regroup, no-one runs by themselves or gets left behind. New and returning Tuesday night runners always welcome.

Route to be decided on the night, around 5 miles. Please wear high vis if you have it.

7pm, Thirsk School. Sports Hall.

Slightly different core work this week which will involve quite a little bit of running. This should be good for both the inside and outside sessions which will follow.

OUTSIDE GROUP:   2 x  2, 3, and 4 mins/ 1 min recovery .  2mins between sets.

INSIDE GROUP: Paul will have something equally as punishing for the inside group.

7pm sharp, Kilburn Woods, Osgodby car park. Dress for the weather and bring a headtorch.

Bring a clean jumper and some beer tokens for refreshments at the Forresters Arms afterwards.

Message from the chair:

Thirsk 10 – so far, we have 465 entries to this race; held on Sunday 17th March at 10am (early start time).  Don’t forget to enter!

Please speak to me, Phillip or Ken Wood about marshalling – it’s vital me have helpers on the day to ensure everything runs smoothly. There are jobs available for those who would like to help out and also run, so please get in touch asap.

Beginners – Just4Beginners; following the success in 2017 we are starting another 12 weeks beginners course on Monday 8th April 2019 at 7pm.  This will be run from Thirsk Athletic Club and is only £1 per session.  Please can you let your friends and family know.

Message from the head-coach:

Cross country. Ormesby Hall. This is a championship race. You should all have had the details by now but if you are in any doubt you can contact me directly or via Fran/Duncan.

If you have already run and cross-country this winter, then you need to bring your number and your club vest. Any new members and existing members wishing to run need to pick their numbers up from me. I will put the folder in the tent. I will bring my spare vest in the hope a new member may want to run. It won’t make you run any faster, but it may mean someone could take pity on you and cheer you on. After all the recent good weather the going should be good and a lot faster than it has been in the past, but it is going to be cold. Keep wrapped up until the very last moment and be sure to have a good, long warm up. The moment you finish running get your warms clothes back on once again. Maybe bring a flask with a hot drink too. There will be no medals and no t-shirts, but it could possibly be running at it’s very, very best. Don’t forget to make sure you have plenty of hot water on tap for your return.

See you Sunday and keep smiling, Rob

Note for the diary: Lakes weekend is 15th & 16th November 2019, further details later.
