Rob’s weekly blog and training update w/c 19/08/19

SESSAY SWIFT

4 more sleeps!!

Even if you are running the race, your help at the start and finish is needed to ensure it runs smoothly. Plenty to do with car parking etc….

Thanks again Duncan

MONDAY 19TH AUGUST (club training night)

7pm Athletic Club. Working together once again on the cricket pitch.

As last week with a few extras! If you don’t have a club vest, then you will be able to purchase one. You need to wear one if you are running on Wednesday night.

TUESDAY 20TH AUGUST (social run*)

Social run from Thirsk and Sowerby leisure centre at 7pm (meet in foyer). Mostly off road depending on the weather. Suitable for all abilities; there will be several stops to run back/regroup, no-one runs by themselves or gets left behind. New and returning Tuesday night runners always welcome.

Route to be decided on the night, around 5 miles. Please wear high vis if you have it. Trail shoes not essential but can be worn if you have them.

WEDNESDAY 21ST AUGUST

CHAMPIONSHIP RACE – Sessay Swift 6k – local flat road race 7.30pm. Sessay Cricket ground.

All on-line entries are now full so your last chance to enter will be at training on Monday night. Please run if you have not been allocated a job. Arrive early on the night as I am on car park duty, I don’t want to have to be parking cars when I should be out on the road getting ready to run. Let’s have a team photo of runners and helpers just after 7pm somewhere around the club house and then let’s relax and enjoy the night.

THURSDAY 22ND AUGUST (social run*)

7pm sharp, Starting from Sneck Yate car park.

Bring a clean t-shirt and some beer tokens for refreshments afterwards at Sutton pub.

Message from the head-coach:

I probably shouldn’t say this but since our next door neighbour’s cat died we have a lot more wild birds in our garden, it doesn’t mean there are lots more birds in total but we do have more birds in our garden. All this is good news because we designed our garden to attract wild birds and there is nothing I like more than to sit and watch them bobbing in and out of our stream as we sit and have tea and so on. Our star attraction at the moment is a male blackbird ( black feathers, orange beak) who is easily identified because he has two white patches on his chest. He is now raising his third brood, two threes and a two. His favourite fruit is pear which we pop on the doorstep and he flies down and picks it up. If he has youngsters with him, which seems most of the time, he brings them food and feeds them one at a time. If the slices of pear are too large then the youngsters complain, he then breaks them up into smaller pieces until they are satisfied and they then eat them. I think this blackbird is well suited to ,looking after our grand kids but he looks to be busy enough as it is.

see you soon, Rob

* social runs are not a club training night and therefore not covered by our insurance.  Please enjoy these nights under your own risk.
