Rob’s weekly blog and training update w/c 18/06/18

7pm Athletic Club. After the initial warm the group will split into two once again. Those who are running at Ilkley and those who are not.

Harrogate District Summer Race League (HDSRL) – PLEASE CAR SHARE, meet at TAC at 5:30pm (race starts at 7:45pm)
Ilkley (Sat Nav: LS29 0BZ). The race is 4.8 miles long

If you are running at Ilkley then you will need to take your number, club vest and anything else you may require to get you around the course on the Tuesday night. . The course itself is described as hilly but really there is only one hill, it just goes on a bit and I don’t see it being any harder than Skipton where we had three climbs. Once you reach the top at Ilkley you need to pick up the pace as soon as you can because you have a long, downhill section and you need to put gravity on your side. Once you turn right on to the bottom road there is a long, flat run into the finish. All the recent intense sessions on a Wednesday night should put you in a good position for this race so don’t ease back, your strength will get you through. Expect a large field and some good, friendly competition.

7pm Athletic Club. For those left standing 6 x 3mins /with alternating 1 and 2 min recoveries, again at 5k or slightly under pace. Before training work out what distance you need to cover in the 3 minutes and at what pace to achieve your target. You will do this automatically the more experienced you become.

Esk Valley Fell Club – Whorlton Run race starts at 7.15pm; £5.00 – Entry on Day
Whorlton Village hall, High Street, Swainby, DL6 3ED
6.2miles/1401′ // 10km/427m

Staveley Stampede 10k – at 11am. Also free children’s fun run on the village green
Multi Terrain – Memento for all finishers. Numbers to be collected on the day.

Message from the chairman:
Anyone that knows of races that are coming up, please let me know so I can put them on the weekly news.

Message from the head-coach:
Each week I try to send out the training schedule so firstly you at least know where we are training but secondly so as you can prepare your mind/ body for the session ahead. I also arrive early to try and mark out a circuit as near 400 meters as I can. I hope this helps some of you.
This last Wednesday’s session was probably the hardest session we’ve had since. The ground was hard, the grass was short and all of you should have been going just that little bit faster. From the information given in the email the most experienced of you should have had a target distance to achieve before the session started. Modern watches nowadays make it easy for you to check this but the main thing for you to check is were you running smooth and relaxed at your peak running speed. If not then you need to ease off a little, your speed will come as your strength improves. Quite a few of you are still not getting your pace judgement correct, keep working at it. If you get it wrong during training, then you certainly won’t get it right during a race. We just want to be the best we can be!!
Running time once more!!, Rob
