Rob’s weekly blog and training update w/c 15/07/19

HELP WANTED PLEASE: We as a club are part of Thirsk Athletes Club (TAC) and from time to time we need to provide members to cover the bar for other clubs with TAC. On Friday 23rd August we need members to cover the bar, if you are interested please see either myself, Stephan Tomaszewski, Nigel Morgan or Paul Goacher.  Training would be provided prior to the night.

MONDAY 15TH JULY

TUESDAY 16TH JULY

Social run from Thirsk and Sowerby leisure centre at 7pm (meet in foyer). Mostly off road depending on the weather. Suitable for all abilities; there will be several stops to run back/regroup, no-one runs by themselves or gets left behind. New and returning Tuesday night runners always welcome.

Route to be decided on the night, around 5 miles. Please wear high vis if you have it. Trail shoes not essential but can be worn if you have them.

WEDNESDAY 17TH JULY

7pm Athletic Club.

4 x 30 second strides / 30 secs recovery during warmups and cool downs . 2 x ( 4 x 3 mins / 1min rec ) 3 mins between sets.   Remember the grass surface on the rugby pitch at the moment is consuming lots of energy and it’s quite hard to keep up a fast pace. However, it was improving towards the end of the session, but I think that was only because we were compacting the ground; just ease off on the intensity until you are fully warmed up and into the session.

We are having some brilliant turnouts at training lately and I have had loads of requests for more sessions in the forestry. I’m listening and we will. It’s just that I haven’t quite recovered from the last one yet but the section we used lends itself to group training and we should use it while it’s available. We might have to make one or two adjustments to the add on interval / time trial bit we did towards the end!

I know Wednesday 17th is also the HDSRL handicap race which I wasn’t going to do as I haven’t run plenty to get a handicap time. However, seeing our son-in-law is organising it I maybe ought to go and support him so perhaps I will. At least I might be able to get into the food queue a little bit earlier than usual so I can perhaps look forward to that.

Message from the head-coach:

The Grand kids are coming!! I do love challenging the Grand Kids and our back field at the moment is looking a bit like a giant play park. I recently went out and bought a natural fibre rope, 80 metres long, 30 mm thick. I have tied it between five silver birch trees and set it between 0.5 and 2 metres above the ground. The object of the challenge is to start and finish in the same place and traverse around the rope without touching the ground. It’s all to do with balance, strength, fear, fun, challenge and sense of achievement. I think I might even have a go myself.

Keep smiling, Rob
