Sowerby Gateway Track ( SGT) Update

Where the two tracks join together there is now a large white line approx. 6″ wide. This is quite bold and very easy to see. Every 100 metres bold white numbers approx. 2′ tall are printed on both tracks, i.e. 100, 200 etc from the start line to the finish line. Every 10 metres a white solar light is to be fitted. Where the track divide lights will continue but on the inside of each track. These lights are designed to throw light sideways rather than upwards which benefits the surrounding houses and also the local wildlife. Every 100 metres there will be a green light which will be seen from 5 to 6 lights away. Where the path splits a red light will be placed to warn you of where you are. Whichever way around you run the result will be the same.  On the wider 100 metre lane area next to the start/finish line the three middle lanes will be fitted with white lights which should give a perfect place for warm up routines, turn arounds, holding areas and so on. Lights are planned to be fitted this mid-November.

I have asked for us to be able to have the Christmas handicap on the track which is usually held on the second Wednesday in December (11th). As this will be the first time, we will be using the track in the dark I would suggest everyone brings a head torch and also wears a hi-vis vest. You might be able to see; others may not be able to see you. I am mentioning all this now so those who are not used to head torches then you can get a little practice in beforehand. Also look to get your time trials in.

The track looks like a dream. It’s smooth, it’s flat and it’s going to be fast so pop this date down in your diary now.
