Brass Monkey Half Marathon – Tom Levi and Joshua Fothergill go head to head…….. followed a long way back by me…..!!

7pm. Main Entrance of Thirsk Racecourse for a group warm up. The school is not available tonight.

As last week but a slightly longer warm up and a slightly longer speedy bits. 3 to 5 miles depending on your different speed group. In addition, there will be a group for those not wishing to run out along station road, this will also suit those returning from injury and those new to running. I’m sure whoever you are I will be able find a slot just for you!! Also, you will be able to leave items of clothing close to the start and finish area because there will be someone close by but don’t leave valuables in them. The Athletic Club will be open for toilets and changing from 6 30 pm.

Social run from Thirsk and Sowerby leisure centre at 7pm (meet in foyer) on well-lit paths and pavements. Suitable for all abilities; there will be several stops to run back/regroup, no-one runs by themselves or gets left behind. New and returning Tuesday night runners always welcome.
Route to be decided on the night, around 5 miles. Please wear high vis if you have it.

7pm, Thirsk School. Sports Hall.

Two large circuits of core work followed inside by the usual round of lung busters.

Outside: grass (headtorch) 5 x 4 minutes/ 1 minute recovery @ 10k pace.

This week as last week are big, big sessions so don’t really worry if you can’t manage them as good as you would like to but I’m giving you all a bit of a challenge. Quite a few of you still need to improve on your core work but overall, I thought the standard for the first week after Christmas was quite high. I hope you didn’t mind us running over a little, but it looked as though you all quite enjoyed it.

7pm sharp, Kilburn Woods, Osgodby car park. Dress for the weather and bring a headtorch.

Bring a clean jumper and some beer tokens for refreshments at the Forresters Arms afterwards.

CHAMPIONSHIP RACE – NYSD Cross Country (Separate email to follow)
Ormesby Hall, Church Lane, Ormesby, Middlesbrough, TS7 9AS

Please use the Church Lane entrance to the Hall NOT the main gate entrance from Ladgate Lane.

Message from the chair:
Thirsk 10 – so far, we have 465 entries to this race; held on Sunday 17th March at 10am (early start time). Don’t forget to enter!
Please speak to me, Phillip or Ken Wood about marshalling – it’s vital me have helpers on the day to ensure everything runs smoothly. There are jobs available for those who would like to help out and also run, so please get in touch asap.

Beginners – Just4Beginners; following the success in 2017 we are starting another 12 weeks beginners course on Monday 8th April 2019 at 7pm. This will be run from Thirsk Athletic Club and is only £1 per session. Please can you let your friends and family know.

Message from the head-coach:
Now we have the internet everyone has become an expert on how to run and how to get fit, so I guess it is quite easy to get bogged down and I suppose quite confused. The first training schedule I followed was to copy the same interval sessions what the horses used to do on the gallops, luckily, I didn’t follow the same diet! We actually used to do group club sessions on the gallops when the horses had finished. A program on bbc iplayer by Dr Mosley; The truth about getting fit. sort of simplifies things a little bit and is well worth watching. Getting fit is just maybe not quite as difficult as everyone makes out.

See you soon, Rob
