I’m sure the training sessions we put together must frighten some of you because in my earlier years they used to frighten the life out of me. Now it’s more like, I’ve done it before so surely, I’ll be able to do it again. Remember, it’s all about pace judgement. As you get stronger your speed will increase and in turn then you can increase the intensity. Break the session down into bits and don’t think about any other interval than the one you are doing. Everyone can manage the last one so you don’t count that one and it always helps if you can have someone next to you who is of similar speed.

7pm sharp, Starting from the corner above Boltby (at old tree house).

Bring a clean t-shirt and some beer tokens for refreshments afterwards.

Burton Leonard 10k, 11am. Junior 3k fun run 10am.

Message from the head-coach:

Sometimes I want to put my arms around Christine but then she won’t always let me . Then there are times she wants me to put my arms around her but either I’m too busy or I don’t understand. Occasionally, just occasionally I get my timing just right! Friday 5th July is the anniversary of when we married and coincidentally it is roughly the time of year we first met. If you use the farming calendar then it was something that happened in the quiet period between hay time and harvest.

I would have married Christine the first moment I met her but she never asked me to so it didn’t happen until a couple of years later. We had a wild and wonderful first summer together doing lots of things lovers do but In the early autumn it all came to a sudden and abrupt end. Christine went to University in London to study nursing and my world fell apart. Each and every day I wrote to her (sometimes twice) while she was away and I tried to explain that I couldn’t live a single moment without her at my side. I was so desperate I even used a first class stamp and I kissed each letter as I posted it in the letter box to wish it faster on it’s way. Then, after 5 or 6 weeks my prayers had been answered and I realised she must have been reading my letters . There she was, a little lonely figure with all her worldly possessions on platform 4 at York Station. I ran towards her, put my arms around her and we’ve been together ever since. She made it home just before the end of potato picking time and if you ask her, she will tell you exactly what she thought of that.

See you all at either Fountains or Kilburn, Rob
