MONDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER  (club training night)

Briefing at 7pm, Thirsk School Thirsk School Gym. Clean shoes please. Indoors with Andy.

Outdoors. Ken and Duncan are taking an outside group giving a choice of two speeds. Go with the one closest to your speed; Duncan is back running…. You will need a head torch and shoes suitable for running on grass. Monday night will be a recovery run, ie 10 min warm up 25 mins steady with a 30 sec stride every 2 to 3 mins with 5 to 10 mins cool down.

Also 7pm Swimming pool. Tonight, we roll out a new group!! Molly assisted with Liv are starting a walking, talking and encouraging people into regular exercise group. This group will also help those who have lost a little confidence, coming back from injury and also those who are looking to get into running. Molly and Liv are both coming back from long term injuries, they are also very young and have lots of enthusiasm and energy which puts them in the perfect position to start the ball rolling. I’m sure all of us at one time or another will find comfort in such a group.

TUESDAY 8TH OCTOBER  (social run*)

Social run from Thirsk and Sowerby leisure centre at 7pm (meet in foyer) on well-lit paths and pavements. Suitable for all abilities; there will be several stops to run back/regroup, no-one runs by themselves or gets left behind. New and returning Tuesday night runners always welcome.

Route to be decided on the night, around 5 miles. Please wear high vis if you have it.

WEDNESDAY 9TH OCTOBER  (club training night)

7pm, Thirsk School. Sports Hall. A warm up and around 20 mins of circuits/core work 3 x 8 min circuits of rolling core work then split into two groups.

Inside. Short and sharp intervals. ( lung busters with Paul)

Outside. x 4 mins/ 1min recovery. Head torch and shoes for grass.

Please can we get organised by setting up quickly then just maybe we can start warm ups promptly. We’ll increase the time running as our body adjusts to the increase in core work.

THURSDAY 10TH OCTOBER  (social run*)

7pm sharp, Starting from Kilburn just past the white houses (winter route).

Bring a clean t-shirt and some beer tokens for refreshments afterwards.

Message from the head-coach:

Wednesday night didn’t go according to plan but on the plus side we had one of the largest number of athletes taking part and doing intervals this year. At the end of the second interval a few of you over ran the finish line by 15 to 20 seconds which suggests to me that on the first interval some of you didn’t commit by 15 to 20 seconds on the first interval. You need to get on the start lines, and you need to commit. If you don’t do it in training, you won’t be able to do it in a race! Otherwise I think you all had a big, big work out.

Italian Job.   Last week 7 members of TASH went to Puglia, Italy to run in the World Masters mountain running championships. The course lacked a little on the mountain front but was very much like running up and down and around Hood hill. A little bit for everyone. Over 1000 athletes competed in different age groups and between us we won 3 silver and one bronze team medals. 26 countries competed and the GB team finished second overall. I think we all competed at our very, very best, we did our club and country proud. Competing wearing a GB vest just notches the competition up just a little, there is no place to hide and you give just that little bit more. Gosh, it’s hard work. I hope that one day you all get the same opportunity as we all did last weekend.

I also managed to beg a tee shirt from one of the top Italian Athletic Teams who were competing. (They had 3 individual Gold medal winners) It cost me my GB vest, a club vest and two Thirsk 10 tee shirts. The Club president is now my best friend! At the moment I am trying to negotiate some sort of athlete exchange so maybe, just maybe someone will have a chance to run in the mountains of Italy this next summer. I really, really do love a challenge.

* social runs are not a club training night and therefore not covered by our insurance.  Please enjoy these nights under your own risk.
