7pm Athletic Club. Slight core work and short rolling intervals. Come with expectation and a smile on your face. Enjoy the night.


Social run from Thirsk and Sowerby leisure centre at 7pm (meet in foyer). Mostly off road depending on the weather. Suitable for all abilities; there will be several stops to run back/regroup, no-one runs by themselves or gets left behind. New and returning Tuesday night runners always welcome.
Route to be decided on the night, around 5 miles. Please wear high vis if you have it. Trail shoes not essential but can be worn if you have them.


7pm Athletic Club. 4 x 4mins/1 min rec., 2 x 3min/ 1 min rec, 4 x 30 secs/ 30 sec rec. 2 and 1 min between sets. A little bit different but mainly to make us concentrate and think about what we are doing. I will probably get it all wrong so I will have to have it written down. Hopefully I will be taking part this week.

Message from the head-coach:

During the week prior to the Herriot run everyone was talking about heat wave, high temperatures and how were we going to cope! Well, we had heavy rain throughout, so our prayers were answered. I found it quite refreshing, the going was good to firm and apart from the strong wind in places It was for the most part of it enjoyable. However, these undulating courses seem to cause inflammation to my lower back and it takes me quite a few days to be free of aches and pains. Walking without pain, never mind run is quite an achievement. I have not run all week, but this is the first break I’ve had for two years so I’m happy with that. Gently does it.

I keep getting asked whether I remember the last hot summer of 1976 but I also seem to remember that when it started to rain it didn’t seem to stop. Just maybe there is a similar pattern to this time! The grass is already starting to grow once more. In 76 I was looking after 500 cows and we didn’t have a single blade of grass, but we solved the problem by buying in cheap waste food products. It changed the feeding of dairy cows dramatically and we produced more milk then than we had ever done. Quite a few cows died because of the heat and a few died because of their hunger they would eat things out of the hedge bottoms which in normal times they would not eat but were poisonous to them. You can expect food to become more expensive in the future, but the British farmers are good at their jobs, the rains will come once again, and we will all have food on the table. If it was easy we would grow our own food and there aren’t too many of do that!

Is there anyone else out there working? Christine and I run a little gardening business, we work hard, and we are good at what we do! There is a little slot in the market for keeping gardens tidy for elderly people who are in their latter stages of life, they require someone they can trust, and it also allows them to keep their independence for just that little bit longer. Add to that you may be their only regular visitor then you become a very important person in their life. Christine and I can’t take on any more work, we turn down two to three times as much work as we do. Is there anyone out there who would like a little work? Rob

Sunday 21st October – Whixley 10k. 11am. Nice multi-terrain race

Sunday 28th October – Sean Lee Johnston 10-mile race. Mostly off road
