Following a league season which has passed all too quickly, HDSRL held its annual Norman Smith Handicap race at Ripon, hosted by Ripon Runners. The very successful evening followed a successful, well supported series of races, and runners’ handicaps were based on their times throughout the series. Carol Morrison was first club finisher in 9th place. Times, in brackets, are the times each person took to complete the testing course, and Carol took 44.04 minutes. Helen Asworth 25th (42.57), Fran Jeffery 26th (44.58), Matt Jones 90th (37.38), Hilary Coventry 91st (44.08), Clare Goacher 97th (49.14), Fiona Needham 102nd (44.19), Marian Codling 106th (60.23), Phillip Craig 107th (50.54), Nicola Booth 109th (40.56), Christine Burn 127th (50.30), Rob Burn 128th (38.30), Geoff Bullock 132nd (42.35), Cath Lumb 136th (52.41), Steve Booth 137th (44.47) and Ian Codling 139th (54.51). After the race came another delicious supper and presentations. The ever consistent and competitive Pat Kirby, a non-participant on Thursday night because of injury, won the series prize in the V55 category and was there to collect her prize.
On Sunday, Alan Harman was among the 645 competitors in the Eccup 10,a 10 mile race taking in Eccup Reservoir, and a testing enough race. He finished 372nd in a time of 1.24.18.
Lapsed member, John Yates, who still takes a keen interest in the club, competed in the Swanage Half Marathon among the hills of South Dorset and finished a very good 29th out of 515 entrants in a time of 1.29.56, his best result in that event for 7 years!
