Matt Leads Harriers Home At Esholt And The Ladies Team Takes The Oiks

The latest HDSRL event, hosted by Dragons RC at Esholt, and a very tough, mainly off-road race, had a contingent of 19 harriers, with the ever-improving matt Jones leading them home in 81st place in 40.52.next was evergreen Rob Burn, 92nd in 41.42, followed by Merv Burn, 95th in 41.59,  Nicola Booth 131st in 44.50,  Geoff Bullock 142nd in 45.27,  David Shorrocks 149th in 45.53,  Paul Goacher 153rd in 46.07,  Steve Booth 180th in 48.03,  Hilary Coventry 189th in 48.46,  Fiona Needham 198th in 49.30,  Carol Morrison 207th in 50.39,  Pat Kirby 208th in 50.43,  Helen Goacher, in her first appearance for the club, 229th in 53.04,  Richard Easby 240th in 54.58,  Clare Goacher 247th in 56.03, Ian Codling 255th in 60.34 (having taken a wrong turn at some point over the course), Sarah Goacher 259th in 62.17,  Marian Codling 261st in 67.31 and Pat Huck 262nd in 71.01.
The Ossy Oiks Fell Race, Race 3 in the summer series, was a very successful event for the Harriers on a fine, sultry evening. Noel Clough finished a very good 12th in 45.53 and Pete Wilkin came 22nd in 47.41.  Hester Cox led home the ladies’ team, coming 42nd, and 1st F40, in 52.04, and with Sarah Glover, 66th in 56.34 and Lorraine Hiles 77th in 59.20, came away with the Ladies’ Team Prize.  Not to be outdone, veteran Alan Wikeley finished 87th in 66.27 and was 1st M65.  Fran Jeffery was 91st in 68.39,  Carol Morrison 93rd in 69.40 and Pat Kirby 94th and 1st F60 in 70.52.
The low-key Hillside Race of about 6.7 miles, a tough course starting at Hillside playing fields and taking in Upsall Bank and Kirkby Knowle, had a small field for its inaugural race, but it was once more very successful as far as Harriers were concerned, with Cameron Choules winning the race in 41.14 and Lorraine Hiles 1st Lady in 47.22.  Other prizewinners were Noel Clough, 1st M40 in 43.42,  Pete Wilkin 1st M50 in 47.10,  David Goddard 1st M60 in 67.21,  Ian Codling 1st M70 in 68.45,Nicola Booth 1st F40 in 51.44 and Pat Kirby 1st F60 in 56.00.  The results of other club runners are not yet to hand.
