Marian’s Weekly Race Report – 26/08/14

There were 28 Harriers in the field for last week’s Sessay Swift 6k, organised by the club and in its third year.  The evening was perfect for running this fast, flat course, and the winner was Mike Jeffries from Billingham in 19.40, with Shona Fletcher of Richmond and Zetland again winning the ladies’ race in 21.41, beating her last year’s winning time by 35 seconds.  Thirsk and Sowerby’s Steve Middleton won 2nd prize in 20.26 with Dan Holdsworth not far behind, 3rd in 20.31.  Ken Wood, getting better with every outing, came 22nd in 23.15,  followed by Graham Robinson, 30th in 24.15,  Liam Allison 31st in 24.17,  Rob Lickley 34th in 24.28,  Rob Burn 36th in 24.34,  Martyn Coy 39th in timer for the club, 65th in 29.28,  Faith Coy 69th in 30.44,  timer, 88th in 33.57,  Gary Holmes 91st in 35.03,  Becky Burgess 97th in 36.50,  Ian Codling 100th, and 1st V70, in 37.10,  Bev Davies 101st in 37.32 and Gillian Crane 106th in 40.40.

Any race cannot take place without its helpers and a big thank you to all who helped in any way, with mention once again of Brian Flintoff from Sessay Cricket Club who masterminded the car parking.

A few days later, Steven Scott and Gillian Crane were among the 211 finishers in the Fountains Abbey Park Run, Steven managing a new personal best, 48th in 23.02 1nd Gillian 176th in 33.29.

Four members were among the 452 finishers of the Escrick 10k, set in the beautiful grounds of Queen Margaret’s School on a lovely morning – perhaps too warm for running – at the weekend!  Rob Lickley had another good run to come 66th in 42.14, Alan Harman 128th in 46.32,   Ian Codling 394th in 63.58 and Gary Holmes 401st in 64.27.

At the far side of the world, John Yates was once again in action in the Run For Our Children race, part of the 69th anniversary celebration of Indonesian Independence.  John was 5th finisher in the 17k race in a very creditable 1.12.58.  Well done.
