Marian’s Weekly Round Up w/c 9/12/13

The club held its annual Christmas Dinner and Presentation Evening at the Golden Fleece at the weekend, which was much enjoyed by all.  The Men’s Championship was awarded to Rob Burn after a keenly fought competition throughout the year with Stephan Tomaszewski, who was 2nd by 4 points.  Walter Busuttil won 3rd place.  Pat Kirby, excellent at all times, had a clean sweep of races in all categories to win the Ladies’ Championship, with Nicola Booth getting 2nd prize and Carol Morrison 3rd.  Marc Davies was deemed to be the Most Improved Man and Hilary Coventry the Most Improved Lady, with the Endeavour Award going to Marian Codling.  A session of cross training, loosely described as dancing, followed, to round off a very successful and happy evening.

The following morning, five members took part in the Eskdale Eureka Fell Race, Race 6 in the Winter Series.  Lorraine Hiles was first club finisher, 69th in 81.28 with David Read next, 78th in 83.40, Carol Morrison 87th in 89.17,  Pat Kirby 107th in 100.50 and Alan Wikeley 109th in 101.00.

Ian and Marian Codling were a little more sedate, enjoying the fun of the Herriot Hospice Homecare 5k Santa Run at Thorpe Perrow.  The sight of a hundred or so Santas setting off was a spectacle to behold and Ian completed the cross-country course in 27.35, Marian taking 32.21.  A mince pie awaited all finishers, and it seems an event likely to be repeated.
