Marian’s Weekly Race Roundup – w/c 03/02/14

The club’s only representative at the Dewsbury 10k on Sunday was Julian Norton, though several others had entered but were unable to compete because of illness or injury. The race is very popular because it is a fast flat course, lending itself to good times and Julian certainly achieved that, coming 158th out of more than 1000 runners in an excellent 39.08, well under 40 minutes and not far off being under 39 minutes!

By contrast, a large group of members were at the Broughton Woods Wobble Fell Race, where mud was the order of the day, but those results are not yet to hand.  This was the second club championship race of the year, and the third one comes up next weekend, the NYSD cross country event at Richmond, when, again, a large club turnout is expected.

There was a confusion of Alans in last week’s report, when the evergreen, Alan Wikeley, once labelled a mountain goat, but perhaps a bit slower these days, missed out on being named as the M60 Champion in the Summer Fell Race Series. Altough slower, he still manages to finish at the head of the list in the series.  The other Alan was none too pleased, either, to be labelled in the M60 category!  Many apologies to both.

Much has been written in this column on the forthcoming Thirsk 10 Road Race on Mar 23rd.  This course is very suitable for wheelchair competitiors, from whom entries are invited.  There is also an off-road Fun Run for children and adults, within the confines of the racecourse and totally traffic free.  That race starts at 10am.
