Marian’s weekly race report – Yorkshire Marathon

Thr new Yorkshire Marathon at York attracted 3881 runners on an overcast day, windy in places.  The well organised and marshalled race was well supported along the way, heading out towards Stamford Bridge.  New member, Sarah Burn, was first club finisher in a time of 4.05.23 with Steve Scott taking 4.23.50 and Phillip Craig 5.18.43.  Well done all!

A decidedly more hilly race was the Saltergate – Levisham Fell Race, race 2 in the winter series.  The race found a window of good weather after a week of heavy rain and Lorraine Hiles came 47th in 109.59,  Hilary Coventry 56th in 117.11,  Carol Morrison 59th in 118.40 and Alan Wikeley 73rd in 140.00.  The ladies’ team took 3rd place.

Ian Codling was at the Shaun Lee Johnstone Memorial 10 mile race near Boroughbridge in aid of Brain Tumour research, held in the memory of Shaun Lee, who died of the disease some years ago aged just 16.  The race is certainly testing, mostly off-road, and there was plenty of mud after torrential rain the night before.  Ian finished 128th in 1.58.13.
