Marian’s Weekly Race Report – w/c 5/5/14

Gary Dunn led home a field of 443 in the popular Tees Barrage 10k on Bank Holiday Monday on an excellent morning for running round this fast, flat course with its unexpected, significant, detours round several hidden “bays”!  Gary’s winning time was 34.26, and Steve Middleton also had a good run to finish 3rd in 35.09, with Marc Davies next, 138th in 47.04,  David Fawkes 148th in 47.30,  Peter Richardson 164th in 48.10,  Stuart Waters, improving all the time, 219th in 50.21,  Joanne Richardson 392nd in 63.09,  Ian Codling 416th in 66.47,  Bev Davies 430th in 71.02 and Marian Codling 431st in 73.17.  David Fawkes wife, Jessica, got a taste of 10k running, taking 68.52.

The previous day, again in excellent conditions, the friendly, atmospheric Kirkbymoorside 10k took place, with the market place closed off to traffic and locals turning out in number to give their support.  Once the first hill is achieved, the remainder of the race is reasonably manageable, and the plus side is that you have a long downhill to the finish!  Paul Atkinson, getting back into good racing form, came 61st out of 441 in 42.46, with Matt Jones next, 68th in 43.13.  Rob Lickley and Graham Robinson  were in a sprint finish, with Rob just edging it to come 89th in 44.26,  Graham 90th in 44.30.  Paul Goacher finished 231st in 51.31,  Clare Goacher 312th in 55.59,  David Goddard 319th in 56.06,  Ian Codling 408th in 66.06 and Marian Codling 440th in 74.06.

Alan Harman completed his 85th half marathon at the weekend, the Lincolnshire Half Marathon, which was well supported, with 1120 finishers. Again, locals turned out in number to cheer the runners on and Alan came 421st in a very pleasing 1.44.34.

Graham Robinson was among the 227 finishers of the mid-week Coastal Spring 5k coming 114th in 21.43.

At the far side of the world,  John Yates took part in the last of the JFS 5k series in Indonesia, finishing 8th overall and 1st M50 in a time of 19.58.
