Marian’s Weekly Race Report w/c 28/08/15

The Northallerton Park Run is establishing itself nicely though its flat, 3-lap course on grass and trails doesn’t lend itself to fast times.  Eleven Harriers were among the 143 finishers, with Greg MacDonald first of them home, 7th in 19.16, followed by Dan Holdsworth 17th in 21.01, Rob Burn, feeling a little more confident about his injury, 20th in 21.32, Nigel Morgan 44th in 25.03,  Phillip Craig, improving every week, 74th in 27.48,  Paul Adams 80th in 28.13, Christine Burn 111th in 30.54,  Ian Codling 123rd in 33.25,  Marian Codling 129th in 37.12,  Lucy Stevenson MacDonald 133rd in 39.36 and Joanne Richardson, acting as sweeper with her pooch, 143rd in 51.58.

Unusually there was only one harriers at the Fountains Abbey run this week, with Linda Bamforth coming 182nd out of 243 in 31.39.

Marc Davies set himself a challenge at the Witton Fell Race, part of West Witton Feast, and it was indeed very challenging.  The 4.1 mile race involved a long, steep climb up Pen Hill with thunder rolling in the background over the Dales.  A set of high stone walls in the way across fields near the finish provided obstacles, to be overcome in a downpour!  Marc did well to finish 7th in a time of 46 minutes, and enjoyed a well earned pint at the Feast after the race!

Mid-week saw the end of season handicap, with Steven Scott 1st and taking the shield, Linda Bamforth 2nd and Paul Adams 3rd.  The run was followed by a barbecue, held, as ever, in the rain, but this didn’t dampen spirits and there was some shelter under which to eat.  A happy time was had by all!
