Marian’s Weekly Race Report w/c 26th May

Although the course for the Nidd Valley fixture of the HDSRL is described as flat, the difficult terrain underfoot made it quite a hard race for the massive 366 competitors in this very enjoyable league, and 2 dozen Harriers turned out for the event – some of them barely recovered from the hard Ripon 10 at the weekend!  Once again, ever youthful Rob Burn was first club finisher, 76th in 36.36, with Matt Jones, flying at the moment, 103rd in 38.07,  Hester Cox 115th in 38.22,  Charlotte Knowles, a young runner who improves with every outing, 125th in 38.55,  just ahead of Graham Robinson 126th in 39.03,  Sarah Glover 151st in 40.24,  David Fawkes 161st in 41.01,  Marc Davies 168th in 41.26,  Peter Richardson 171st in 41.29,  David Shorrocks 174th in 41.38,  Martin Cummins 197th in 43.00,  Geoff Bullock 233rd in 44.28,  Steve Scott 236th in 44.30,  Louise Knowles 271st in 46.46,  Julie Forster 287th in 47.59,  Christine Burn 325th in 51.23,  Andrea Almack 329th in 51.37,  Clare Goacher 330th in 52.07,  Nigel Morgan, making a welcome appearance after lenthy injuries, 343rd in 53.43,  Joanne Richardson 345th in 54.47,  Jane Cummins 351st in 56.16,  Sharon Keegan 352nd in 57.04,  Ian Codling 354th in 57.59 and Bev Davies 363rd in 61.02.

There was a good club turnout for the popular local Melmerby 10k, a road race which is not completely flat but which allows for a good time.  It was a perfect morning for running, the rain just about holding off until the last runner was in.  Paul Atkinson, running really well, and getting better all the time, came 37th out of the 242 finishers in 40.35, with Liam Allisson, another young runner who just keeps improving, 51st in a personal best time of 42.30,  Graham Robinson 63rd in 43.47,  Richard Harry 65th, pleased with his time of 43.58,  Laura Bosomworth in her first ever 10k, a superb 71st in 44.32, Martin Cummins 105th in a very good 47.29,  Duncan Fothergill, improving with every outing, 110th in 47.59,  Stuart Waters 129th in 49.32, his first 10k under 50 minutes,  Chris Sykes 167th in 54.12,  Andrea Almack 201st in 57.43,  Richard Easby 205th in 58.25,  Jane Cummins 211th in 60.07,  Ian Codling 224th in 63.53- well inside his target time of 65 minutes,  Joanne Richardson 233rd in 67.40 and Marian Codling 238th in 70.46, getting near 70 minutes for the first time for ages!  Congratulations to the new organising team on an excellent event.
