Marian’s Weekly Race Report – w/c 19/01/15

It was a freezing cold day for the popular Brass Monkey Half Marathon at York at the weekend, but, apart from icey patches in places, conditions were good for running.  Dan Holdsworth was once again first club finisher, 35th in 1.17.16, Steve Middleton 131st in 1.24.13, Rob Lickley 450th in 1.36.38, a full 5 minutes quicker than his previous best time for a half marathon, Charlotte Wilton 496th in 1.38.25,  Danielle Donohue and Brian Smith coming in together, 1031st in 1.54.56.  There were 1446 finishers in this fast, flat race.

The previous day, Joanne Richardson was 204th in 36.28 at the Darlington 5k Park Run and Peter Richardson 215th in 45.26.  The Fountains Abbey run was cancelled as the course was too slippery.

At the start of the year, Fran Jeffery was among the 192 runners who embarked on the tough Hardmoors 30, a trail run starting and finishing at Robin Hoods Bay, a new base this year.  The course was basically along to Whitby and back then on the Cleveland Way to Ravenscar and out to Hayburn Wyke before returning via Boggle Hole.  The course consisted of cinder paths, moorland trails, steep downs and ups – some on steps, with wind, mud and rain at times thrown in for good measure!  Never daunted, Fran continued in spite of aching knees, taking 7 hours 14 minutes, a full hour quicker than 2013 and finishing 165th.  Well done!

For those who want something easier, entries for the Thirsk 10 on Mar 22nd are coming in fast.  Details are on the club website so get your entry in to be sure of a place.
