Marian’s Weekly Race Report w/c 17/11/14

Ten Harriers were among the 97 finishers of the Commondale Beacon Fell Race over about 8 miles at the weekend, Race 4 in the Winter Series and the penultimate race in the Club Championship series of races.  The weather was just about ideal for running, the race having avoided the thick fog of the previous evening and downpours both before and after.  There was plenty of mud on the course, and the cramped start entailed negotiating scratchy gorse, but Stephan Tomaszewski was once again in fine form, finishing 19th, and 1st M50, in 59.45.  Ever competitive Cameron Choules was next, 23rd in 60.31, Bryan Miller 50th in 68.31,  Martyn Coy 52nd in 69.15, Graham Robinson 57th in 72.07,  before Hywel Smith 64th in 73.17, Marc Davies 65th in 73.19 and Hilary Coventry 66th, and 1st F50, in 73.53, were all involved in a tussle for the finish line.  Carol Morrison came 80th, and 2nd F50, in 79.25 and Duncan Fothergill, in his first fell race, 83rd in 80.03.

Rather more runners took part in the Leeds Abbey Dash 10k – almost 10 000 – in a race which is popular because, being a flat out and back course from the city centre to Kirkstall Abbey, it allows for fast times, and the first 13 finishers were under 30 minutes.  Conditions were perfect for running and the majority of Harriers were pleased with their times. Gary Dunn led the way in a very good 33.07 with Dan Holdsworth taking 35.08,  Steve Middleton 37.56,  Rob Lickley 42.41, Alan Harman 47.04,  Brian Smith 48.19,  Stuart Waters 49.00,  Rebecca Burgess 50.18,  Allan Pollock 52.01,  Malcolm Aitken 54.07,  Ian Codling 65.05,  Marian Codling 73.08 and Liz Stephenson 86.31.

At the Fountains Abbey Park Run 5k the previous day, Steven Scott was 26th out of 167 in 22.39,  Martin Cummins 32nd in 23.57 and Jane Cummins in yet another personal best 29.13.
Joanne Richardson was at the Darlington Park Run, coming 162nd out of 182 in 33.35.

The popular Thirsk 10 Road Race will take place on Mar 22nd next year, incorporating the Yorkshire Veterans 10 Mile Championships, and entries will be opening soon.
