Marian’s Weekly Race Report – w/c 10/03/14

With the weather having taken a turn for the better, conditions for running are so much more pleasant, and the field of 182 enjoyed the second running of the Fountains Abbey Park Run on Saturday.  Greg MacDonald is in superb form and finished 2nd in an excellent 17.19 with Martin Cummins 68th in 25.18, Nigel Morgan, making a rare and welcome appearance, 111th in 29.17, Jane Cummins 133rd in 30.45 and Bev Davies 154th in 33.40.

The next day, in preparation for the forthcoming London Marathon, Alan Harman went in the East Hull 20, where for once, conditions were good (it’s usually cold and windy) and Alan had a good run to finish 203rd out of 352 in 2.54.41.

Durham was the beautiful setting for the Town and Gown 10k in aid of Muscular Dystrophy.  Durham is hilly and there were hills aplenty along with flatter stretches by the river, but all in all, it was a tough course.  Ian Codling came 250th in 66.56 and Marian Codling 273rd in 78.11.

The previous weekend, 9 Harriers were among the 101 finishers in the Glaisdale Rigg Fell Race on another excellent day, though the ground was wet, muddy and boggy, slowing runners down.  Sarah Glover came 46th in 82.08,  David Read 53rd in 83.53,  Hilary Coventry 73rd in 88.45, a full 7 minutes faster than when she last did the race,  Carol Morrison 83rd, and 2nd F50, in 94.15,  Rebecca Hartley 84th in 94.18,  Pat Kirby 85th, and 1st F60, in 94.22,  Fran Jeffery 90th in 102.18, and Claire Gillan and Bryan Miller, running together, 97th and 98th respectively, in 116.51 and 116.57.
