Marian’s Weekly Race Report w/c 02/12/13

The final cross country fixture of the year coincided with the final event in the club championship series and there was a good turnout of 18 Harriers.  Although one might have expected a cross country race at Croft Autodrome to be flat, this was not the case and some awkward cambers were contrived up testing little hills.  U17 runner Charlotte Knowles led home members in the ladies’ race finishing a very good 21st out of 74 entrants, over a course of about 6k, in 29.17 with Carol Morrison next, 30th in 31.09,  Pat Kirby 32nd in 31.24,  Christine Burn 62nd in 36.31,  Claire Gillan 66th in 37.57,  Nicola Booth, trying to get back into some sort of running form after a very long lay-off, 67th in 38.07,  Cath Lumb 68th in 39.12,  Jayne Cummins 69th in 39.49 and Marian Codling 74th in 50.30.  Ian Codling, being a very senior veteran, also competed at that distance and took 41.46 minutes.
The men’s race, over a longer distance, had Stephan Tomaszewski leading club runners home, 31st in 33.14, with Rob Burn 42nd in 34.09,  Rob Lickley 64th in 37.16,  Marc Davies 77th in 38.52,  Martyn Coy 90th in 40.05,  Bryan Miller 97th in 41.12,  Martin Cummins 99th in 41.36 and Alan Rylance, in his first outing for the club, 101st in 44.06.

The previous day, Ian and Marian Codling made the long journey to take part in the Ravenstonedale Red 10k, a scenic, friendly village race on the edge of Cumbria, on a beautiful day both for travelling and running.  The course is rarely flat but doesn’t have significant hills either and is quite testing.  Ian finished 177th in 66.14 and Marian 182nd in 78.08.

Entries are now coming in for the Thirsk 10 Road Race on Mar 23rd 2014 and details of entry can be found on the club web-site.
