Marian’s Weekly Race Roundup – Harriers in Jakarta and Scarborough

The well organised, tough, Guy Fawkes 10 took place at Ripley at the weekend with the man himself once more leading off the field!  Race day was preceded by a night of torrential rain, but with being mostly a road race, this was not too much of a problem, though water was across the course in one or two places in the off-road sections.  Strong winds reduced finishing times, but 801 runners completed the course, with on-form Pat Kirby being first club finisher, 338th in 84.50,  Alan Harman 511th in 93.16,  Ian Codling 768th in 116.37 and Marian Codling 800th in 139.09.  Pat and Marian each received age-group prizes.

Wind was also a factor for the popular Yorkshire Coast 10k at Scarborough, but again there were 1278 finishers, all finding it hard to run fast times because of the wind.  Dan Holdsworth had another wonderful run to come 14th in 36.18 with Rob Lickley, also on fine form, 159th in 44.23.

Wind and rain are as nothing compared with the high humidity runners faced in the inaugural Jakarta Marathon in Indonesia.  John Yates managed a valiant 409th out of more than 10000 runners, 9th V40, in 4 hours 9 minutes, but needed to spend an hour in the recovery tent after the race!
