Marian’s Weekly Race Report – 30/09/2014

Rob and Christine Burn were at the Yorkshire Veterans Cross Country Championships at the weekend, at the lovely Nunroyd Park, Guiseley, Leeds.  Cross country races are often associated with cold, wet weather but it was warm and sunny – too warm – on Sunday for an afternoon race which was mostly on level ground with not too many climbs.  Christine finished 4th F60 in the women’s race over 5k and Rob was 3rd M60, winning himself a Bronze medal over the men’s 10k course.  The previous day, 3 members took part in the scenic Snape 10k in a lovely village on a fine morning.  Although the course was fairly flat, quite a bit of it was over long grass, which made it quite hard going, though there were some road and track stretches as well.  Ian Codling finished 92nd in 65.23, Gary Holmes 95th in 68.10 and Marian Codling 98th in 77.20.

The Yorkshire 10k at Newby Hall, in aid of Cystic Fibrosis research, was again level but it also was hard work on the off-road sections, which were most of the race!  Charlotte Wilton was first club finisher, 41st in 46.16, with Andrea Almack 163rd in 60.18,  Ian Codling 211th in 65.33,  Gary Holmes 222nd in 67.59, Marian Codling 254th in 80.40 and Liz Stephenson, improving in confidence with every outing, 261st in 86.50.

The Summer Series of Fell Races has ended and prizes awarded.  Alan Wikeley was 2nd M70, Fran Jeffery 4th Open lady, Hilary Coventry 1st F50, Lorraine Hiles 2nd F50 and Pat Kirby 2nd F60.  The ladies came away with the 2nd Team Prize.  Well done all!

On the other side of the world, John Yates did the 8 mile Nutrilite 8 mile race in BSD City, Jakarta, in a flat out and back course and finished 23rd in 52.27.
