Marian’s Weekly Race Report – 02/09/13

The popular Tholthorpe 10k was run in cooler conditions for once, though the wind was problematic in places.  There were 269 finishers, of which 17 were Harriers for their latest club championship race.  Walter Busuttil was first member home, 16th in a very good 39.06, with Stephan Tomaszewski 25th in 40.04,  Rob Lickley 60th in 44.33,  David Shorrocks 75th in 45.55,  Bryan Miller 84th in 46.49,  Hilary Coventry 97th in a personal best time of 48.02,  Geoff Bullock 98th in 48.20,  Pat Kirby 104th in 49.02,  Marc Davies 116th in another personal best of 49.41 – his first time under 50 minutes for the distance,  Rebecca Hartley 126th in 50.56,  Claire Gillan 173rd in 55.03, yet another PB,  Faith Coy just behind, 174th in 55.04,  Julie Forster 215th in 59.19,  Richard Easby 227th in 60.15,  Ian Codling 234th in 62.18, not a personal best, but his best time for a year or more,  Cath Lumb 239th in 63.12  and Bev Davies 267th in 71.50.

The previous weekend, a couple of members took part in the ill-fated Spofforth Gala 10k when many runners were seriously stung by hornets from a nest on the course and needed medical treatment at the finish.  Some were unable to complete the race and one person was taken to hospital.  Fiona Needham escaped without harm and finished 115th out of 224 runners in 54.33, and Ian Codling, less fortunate, 202nd in 71.35.

Alan Harman was at the Fleetwood Half Marathon in his quest to try complete a total of 80 half marathons in his career before the end of the year.  He is two short so far.  He finished 227th out of 531 runners in 1.49.15, a very creditable time.
