Marian’s Racing Report – World Masters Mountain Running Championships and others.

Six members went off to Austria for the World Masters Mountain Running Championships in the Stubai Valley near Innsbruck.  The races, over 5 year age-groups from 35 to 79, are 7.2 k, starting at 3000 ft and finishing at 6000 ft, ending in a very stiff climb – with a cable car to get you to 3000 ft!  The scenery was stunningly beautiful and the weather was cool but sunny – perfect for running.  Christine Burn was 15th W60 and 1st GB finisher in 1.12.29, coming away with a Bronze Medal for Team GB.  What a wonderful achievement!  Nicola Booth was 26th W50 in 1.03.22, 2nd GB finisher,  David Read 69th M55 in 1.03.1, 4th GB,  Rob Burn 29th in 53.50, 1st GB finisher,  Hywell Smith 63rd M60 and 4th GB, and Alan Wikely 40th M70 and 4th GB.

Hilary Coventry took on the challenge of the Roseberry Topping Fell Race – quick as you can up to the top and back – not quite 3000 feet, but hard enough.  She finished 73rd in 23.27, 1st F50 finisher.
In the weekly park Run at Fountains Abbey, Steve Scott came 34th out of 209 in a new personal best of 22.38 with Duncan Fothergill 63rd in 25.23 and Malcolm Aitkin 103rd in 28.26.
Joanne Richardson was at the Darlington Park Run, finishing 202nd out of 219 in 33.13.

Pete Wilkin, always one to test himslf, cycled 45 miles to Muker for the Muker Show Fell Race, finishing 11th overall and 1st M50, before cycling home again!  The following weekend he took part in the first Yorkshire Cyclo Cross points race of the season at Beverley and was 2nd V50 finisher.
