Marian’s Race Roundup – 23/12/13

Ten Harriers were among the almost 500 finishers of the popular and festive Loftus and Whitby Poultry Run at the weekend.  There were Father Christmases, elves, reindeer and fairies aplenty at the start, with a brass band to add to the seasonal atmosphere, though the race itself was no laughing matter!  There is a steady uphill climb for most of the first two thirds of the race, with strength sapping mud over a couple of fields where the course goes off road. The return part is on road, but a head wind reduced some of the advantage that might have given.  All in all, though, an enjoyable race over about 8 miles.  Rob Lickley set the pace for club members, finishing 111th in 58.15, followed by Richard Harry, 147th in 59.46,  Paul Atkinson 155th in 60.30,  Nicola Jenkins 212th in 64.22, the irrepressible Pat Kirby 230th in 65.12, coming away with one of the dressed poultry prizes for being 2nd in her age-group, Hilary Coventry 292nd in 68.10,  Fran Jeffery 325th in 70.10,  Rebecca Hartley 383rd in 75.23,  Ian Codling 472nd in 89.11 and Marian Codling 488th in 100.36.
