Marian’s Race Report – Great North Run

Laura Bosomworth undoubtedly had the star performance of the weekend, finishing a superb 7th out of all the thousands of entries in the Junior Girls 4k Great North Run in a time of 15.54 minutes, adding to her already impressive list of recent results.  Congratulations!
In the senior race, Ken Wood was first club finisher in another magnificent time of 1.28.21 – he goes from strength to strength.  Richard Harry was next in 1.35.05, beating his previous personal best by 30 seconds, followed by evergreen Alan Harman, in his 17th consecutive Great North Run in a time of 1.44.55.  Iain Milner was next in 1.51.43, followed by Stuart Waters, in his first GNR, in 1.55.26, Brian Smith, another first-timer, 2.13.24 and Malcolm Aitken 2.21.33, both of the last two struggling with long-term injuries.  Richards Harry’s 75 year old father, John, took 3.30.25.

There were 235 finishers at the popular Tholthorpe 10k – numbers somewhat affected by the change of date of the GNR, on a lovely morning for running in this beautiful village.  Cameron Choules, who has done this race virtually from the beginning, came 8th in 37.23,  Stephan Tomaszewski 23rd in 40.08,  and Paul Atkinson 40th in 41.34.  Martyn and Faith Coy both got good personal best times over the distance and both were involved in tight finishes with other club members.  Graham Robinson just pipped Martyn, coming 52nd in 42.56 with Martyn a second slower in 42.57.  Marc Davies was 105th in 47.38,  Geoff Bullock 114th in 48.43, and Stephen Billings 137th in 51.15, before Faith Coy and Nicola Jenkins were involved in another sprint finish, and given the same time of 53.19 in 147th place.  Duncan Fothergill, another runner struggling with injury, was 160th in 54.31,  Ian Codling 210th in 63.26,  Cath Lumb 216th in 64.55,  Pat Huck 227th in 70.20 and Marian Codling 230th in 77.10.

Martin and Jane Cummins were at the Fountains Abbey Park Run, with Martin finishing 49th out of 162 in 24.31 and Jane 118th in 31.30.

It’s good to round off this report with another superb performance, and this was achieved by Charlotte Knowles at the Darlington Park Run, finishing 25th in a new personal best time of 21.05, and First lady finisher!  Well done. Louise Knowles also got a new personal best, coming 62nd out of 159 in 24.18, with Joanne Richardson, back in action after a long lay off, 151st in 34.13.

Earlier in the week, Graham Robinson was in the field of 148 for the Autumn Coast Road 5k at New Marske and came 57th in a very good 20.34.
