Ladies Lethal At Eskdale Eureka

A busy day on Sunday saw two races scheduled for the same day with 6 Harriers opting to do the Eskdale Eureka Fell Race in the morning.  Several inches of snow and lethal ice in places made conditions underfoot very tricky and Chris Raw had a good run to finish 49th in 85.20, 1st F45,  with Nicola Booth 76th in 97.35,  Hywel Smith 80th in 99.34,  Alan Wikeley 88th 108.00,  Lorraine Hiles 90th in 109.00 and Fran Jeffery 94th in 119.48.
Conditions were reasonably good for the cross country in the afternoon, hosted by Scarborough AC but held in the lovely country park at Filey.  The course went partly along the cliff tops with sea views plentiful on a sunny but very cold afternoon, and though it was a long journey to get to Filey, it was well worth the ride!  Pat Kirby was first finisher in the Ladies’ race, 34th in 26.23, with Christine Burn 45th in 29.06, Pam Sherlock 48th in 37.33 and Marian Codling 49th in 39.41.  The V65 men also ran with the ladies and Ian Codling came 3rd in 33.03.The men’s race, over twice the distance, had Merv Burn finishing 28th in 45.08,  Rob Burn 29th in 45.13,  Martyn Coy 41st in 48.11 and David Goddard 56th in 59.11.  This was a Club Championship race and final positions can now be sorted.
Dan Holdsworth, continuing his excellent form, took part in the recent Norman Woodcock Memorial 5 mile race hosted by Elswick Harriers and came a very good 27th out of 217 finishers in a time of 28.20.
