Ian hits 400 And Still Going Strong

Gavin Coventry and Hester Cox competed in the Simonside Cairns Fell Race at the weekend, the route having to be adapted slightly to avoid icy stones following a sudden lowering of the temperature.  Even so, it was “a cracking good fell race” with plenty of bog, mud and fallen trees, and even Christmas lights and music through the forest!  Gavin had a superb run to finish 12th in 1.27.32 with Hester coming in 46th out of 90 entrants in a time of 1.39.34 and taking the prize for the 3rd lady finisher.
Ian and Marian Codling were in the Lake District for the Great Langdale Christmas Pudding 10k on Saturday, along the lovely Langdale Valley.  Conditions were perfect for running and Ian finished 299th out of 427 runners in a time of 61.17.  Marian came in 358th in 66.53 and both won their age-group category.  This was Ian’s 400th race since he took up running about 10 years ago – not bad for someone who had a hip-replacement operation 18 years ago!  Running has taken him, with Marian, all over the country, from Sidmouth in Devon to Dyce near Aberdeen and from Blackpool to Scarborough and many places in between, including the London Marathon a couple of times!  He hopes to continue now for his next 100 races!
Noel Clough and Pete Wilkin were at Peel Park, Bradford for Race 5 in the National Trophy cyclo-cross race series.  A steep technical descent on the course required extra care or you ended up in mud, but Noel had an excellent race to finsh 2nd, just 10 sec behind the winner.  Pete was 12th in the V50 category.
The previous weekend, Alan Harman was at Bramham Park for the RNLI Reindeer Run over a deceptively difficult undulating off-road course. He found his antlers a handicap on a cold, windy day, and completed the race in about 55 minutes!
