Harriers Storm At Rainton

Another busy week for Harriers saw 18 members among the 210 finishers of the popular Rainton 10k, the 25th and possibly last running of this race which is held in great affection by its runners.  Dan Holdsworth,recovering from a bout of illness, put in a fine performance to finish 8th in 37.39, winning the prize for the 1st local runner.  Stephan Tomaszewski was 19th in 39.05, Graham Robinson, in a good vein of form, 40th and 2nd M55, in 42.38,  Rob Burn 45th in 43.09,  Les Sutton-Haigh 54th in 44.20,  Martyn Coy 69th in 46.24,  Nicola Booth 72nd, and 2nd F45 in 46.44,  Paul Goacher 105th in 49.37, Nik Sutton-Haigh, another runner in excellent form, 106th in 49.38,  Carol Morrison 132nd in 52.47,  Pat Kirby, ever competitive, 139th and 1st F60 in 53.32,  David Goddard 151st in 55.16,  Phillip Craig 169th in a new personal best time by almost 2 minutes for a 10k of 58.27,  Christine Burn, struggling with an injury, 171st in 59.13,  Cath Lumb 173rd in 59.21,  Ian Codling 179th in 61.07,  Marian Codling 198th in 67.24 and Pam Sherlock 206th in 76.24.
Alan Harman, in another of his “castle” races, took part in the inaugural Alnwick Castle Half Marathon over a course which was 75% off-road and 4 miles along the River Aln – and a couple of steep hills.He came 37th out of 92 in a time of 1.57.04.
Just a few days before, Race 4 in the HDSRL series took place at East Harlsey hosted by Swaledale Runners.  There was a smaller than usual field, perhaps because the day had seen lots of rain, but in fact there was a window of dry for the interesting race, mainly on road for a change.  Lorraine Hiles lead the club runners home to finish in 74th place in 43.42 with Nicola Booth 111th in 47.08,  Steve Booth 136th in 50.28,  Helen Ashworth 144th in 52.06,  Fran Jeffery 167th in 55.20, Lyn Jackson 182nd in 61.40,  Lisa Brown 183rd in 61.42,  Ian Codling 186th in 63.14,  Marian Codling 188th in 69.25 and Pat Huck 190th in 70.35. The usual excellent supper was enjoyed after the race!
Fran Jeffery had also done the Whorlton Run Fell Race the night before, finishing 96th in 62.57, but not before Sarah Glover who had come 82nd in 58.32.
The previous weekend, a handful of club runners were among the 329 finishers at Castle Howard for their Trail Race, about 10.5k over a 2-lap scenic course in the grounds of Castle Howard.  Steve Middleton had another superb run to come 12th in 39.56,  Alan Harman 125th in 53.43,  Fiona Needham 142nd in 54.40,  Chris Sykes 232nd in 62.07,Cath Lumb 258th in 65.02,  Ian Codling 274th in 67.09and Marian Codling 325th in 77.54.  David Goddard and Jean Sykes did the 6k race, with David taking 32.16 and Jean 48.48.
