A bumper turnout of 24 Harriers entered the Hartlepool Marina 5 at the weekend for the latest club championship race. The race, round the vicinity of the Marina and then out and back along the promenade, was started, as usual, by the firing of a cannon, which got all runners off to a flying start! Phil Utley, continuing his excellent form, led club members home to finish in 16th place in 28.55. Walter Busuttil, also flying just now, finished 22nd in 29.38, ahead of the ever reliable Stephan Tomaszewski, 28th in 30.01. Stephan took the prize for the 1st M50. Mervin Burn was next, 59th in 32.03, Rob Burn 77th in 33.08,Graham Robinson 80th in 33.19, Matt Jones 104th in 34.50, Geoff Bullock 132nd in 36.14, Martyn Coy 167th in 37.40, Helen Ashworth, in a rare outing, 197th in 38.58, Hilary Coventry 203rd in 39.22, Steve Billings 217th in 40.13, David Goddard 252nd in 42.32, Chris Sykes 263rd in 43.49, Christine Burn 265th in 44.06, Richard Easby 284th in 45.41, Ian Codling 299th in 46.56, just pipping Cath Lumb, 300th in 46.59, Sue Reynard 309th in 47.37, Sarah Goacher 338th in 50.46, Andrea Potter, in her first race, exceeding her expectations by finishing 341st in 51.04, and even managing to enjoy the race, Marian Codling 345th in 51.31, Pam Sherlock 359th in 55.12 and Jean Sykes 378th in 63.52. 383 entrants completed this very enjoyable race on a lovely morning for running.
Alan Harman and Pat Kirby, meanwhile, were among the 375 runners of the popular Baildon Boundary Way Half Marathon, with Alan coming 239th in 2.03.00 and Pat 268th in 2.08.22.
Preparations are well in hand for those doing the London Marathon, and Dan Holdsworth and Paul Atkinson were among the field of 379 runners of the recent South Yorkshire Half Marathon at Barnsley, with Dan achieving an excellent 34th place in a time of 1.25.09 and Paul, inside his target time of 1 hour 30, 59th in 1.29.55. Steve Middleton went for a longer distance, the East Hull 20, and was a very good 20th out of 131 in 2.07.39.
