Runner of the Month

Every month a Harrier will be chosen as “Runner of the Month”. This might be awarded because of the effort shown in training, personal goals achieved, dedication following a return from injury or simply by helping out! Browse the previous winners below.

Diane Brown

I started running around the age of 11, taking part in local fun runs, cross country and fell races. By my late teens however I had lost interest and spent most of my 20s doing very little exercise. I was quite overweight when I injured my back at age 30 and it was the jolt I needed to get my fitness back. I got involved in triathlon and eventually completed an Ironman in 2011! Then everything was turned upside down again when I became a Mum. I’m still passionate about running and triathlon but training is much more challenging than it used to be. That’s why I love being a member of Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers as they provide a great social support to encourage you whether you’re having a good or a bad day. I always come home from a session feeling proud of myself.
