Cameron The First Old Monk

Five Harriers were among the record turnout of 237 entrants for the Old Monks Race at Hart near Hartlepool at the weekend.  This friendly village race, multi terrain with some road, tricky hills and mud aplenty on a lovely morning for running, attracted a high quality field and Cameron Choules did well to finish 22nd in 35.47.  Rob Burn had a good race to come in 83rd in 41.55 with Alan Harman 143rd in 47.14, Christine Burn 213th in 56.08 and Ian Codling 215th in 57.10.
The previous weekend, New Year’s Day, a record 290 runners assembled for the annual Captain Cook’s Fell Race, race 7 in the winter series.On one of the warmest ever days for the race, and certainly the wettest, at least for the first half, resulting in plenty of mud on the course,Hester Cox lead club runners home, finishing 138th in 44.42 with Graham Robinson 209th in 50.07.   Alan Harman, having done the Jolly Holly Jog only a few days previously, came in 233rd in 52.10,  Fran Jeffery 241st in 53.20 and Carol Morrison 262nd in 56.34.
Noel Clough rounded off an excellent season by competing in the ultra competitive V40s National Cylco Cross Championships in Chantry Park,Ipswich at the weekend, and came in a superb 3rd to take the Bronze Medal.  Added to that, when points were totted up for the Yorkshire Championships, Noel was the overall winner, a fantastic achievement!
The 2012 Club Championship gets underway next weekend with the cross country race at Acklam Grange School, Middlesbrough.  Meet in Thirsk Market Place at 12 noon.
