The Latest from Billy Cramp-Up / Local Coach and Adviser 17 Nov 2007
If your thinking of running a marathon. Then you can't beat my advice says Billy Cramp-Up.
We asked Billy if he had any advice, tips or training ideas for running a marathon.
Billy says he recommends lots of runs over race distance that is 30 milers
in preparation for a marathon race. Billy says many top coaches now recommend
only running 20 miles at the maximum. I have never heard so much rubbish in
all my life said Billy. I take it these coaches advise 100 metre sprinters to
only train upto 60 metres at the most. It would be like training somebody
to skydive and only practicing jumping off a chair. There's no need to
train any higher than that Billy can imagine them saying. 10 more jumps
off that chair and your ready for your first skydive. It's about time these top
coaches spoke to me first.
In a recent survey in athletics weekly researchers found after many thousand
of pounds expense. That long distance runners that reduced thier mileage
and did more interval training, improved more than the runners who continued
with high mileage. Of course they bloody did ! That's how i have been
bringing my top marathon runners in to top form for over 40 years. I could
of told them all this for a tenner.
Billy was reading some of the other coaches top tips for marathon racing.
Listed below:
# Always were your own trainers on race day.
# To save time on race day sleep in your race gear.
# Mark your energy drinks bottle with a little flag which you can identify easily.
These tips are absolute rubbish says Billy. And lists some top tips of his own:
# Do not bother marking bottles. Pinch some one elses. Another runner less to beat.
# Chip Timing. Sneakily leave yor timing chip on the back of the lead vehicle.
# Put double sided sticky tape on your race number. Then in the crowded start area
craftily stick it onto the front of an elite runner.
# Most importantly. have a good get away car and driver ready at the finish , just
in case you get caught cheating.
