Alan Is First Home But Pat And Marion Catch The Bird

The club year was rounded off at the weekend with the annual dinner dance and presentation evening.  The Men’s Club Champion this year is the evergreen Rob Burn, with Paul Atkinson coming 2nd and Ian Codling 3rd.  The Women’s Club Champion was Lorraine Hiles, who has had many individual successes in races over the year.  Marian Codling came 2nd and Fran Jeffery was 3rd.  Fran Jeffery also got the Endeavour award which was a thoroughly deserved recognition of her hard work and improvement over the season.  The Most Improved male award went to Geoff Bullock Junior and the Most Improved female was Christine Burn.

The following day – not ideal to have had a big meal the night before – four Harriers were involved in the Loftus and Whitby Poultry Run, a hard race over about 8 miles, with plenty of hills and a mile or two of sticky off-road.  There was a very festive feel to the friendly, well organised race, with lots of people in fancy dress and a brass band in attendance!  Alan Harman was the first Thirsk and Sowerby finisher, in 202nd place in a time of 68.06 with Pat Kirby 220th in 69.48, Ian Codling 310th in 84.19 and Marian Codling 317th out of 332 runners in 92.32.  Pat and Marian each came away with a turkey for being 2nd in their respective age group!

Happy Christmas,
Best wishes,
Marian
